Oasis For Girls Rise Life Skills Education Program is a 10 week, stipend life-skills program offered three times a year to up to 20 girls each session. The participants are between the ages of 14 to 18. Focusing on mental, emotional, and physical well-being, RISE fosters appreciation of health care and positive behaviours to prepare girls to live healthy lives. Girls are awarded a $400 stipend for completion of the program. The program culminates in a closing circle/education session and celebration. Girls are expected to share what they have learned and how their new knowledge will impact their future and what specific actions they will take to realize their visions. Specific topics include: 1) exploring different identities; 2) self esteem and body image; 3) mental health; 4) stress management; 5) eating nutritionally for better health; 6) educational options; 7) career planning and resume building; 8) sexual harassment and protecting yourself; 9) sex and safe sex practices; 10) substance abuse and harm reduction; 11) sexism, racism, homophobia and 12) social justice.

Girl 2 Girl (G2G), a Life Skills Education program is a school based program for middle school girls. During the 2008-2009 school year, G2G will be offered at Francisco Middle School in the fall and Bessie Carmichael School on 4th and Harrison. There are 15- 20 girls each session. Our overall program goal to ensure girls ages 11-14 are healthy, well educated, and well prepared for the transition from middle to high school.
